 PINGU PONG

DESCRIPTION

Pingu Pong is a 2D Top Down Arcade Defense game, created using Zero Engine (Digipen's Game Engine). You play as Earth's last defense against Pingus (Pink furry aliens) by using a variety of Pong paddles.

These pong paddles can destroy Pingus upon contact and some can even reflect, absorb or fire projectiles. Pingus themselves have special abilities too, especially the big bosses.

 MY ROLE

GAME DESIGNER

  • Designed the entire game with inputs from my team and worked closely with the programmers to created a well knitted game.

  • Made a standard tower defense game with a twist and a planet alien theme which fits the mechanics. This gives an entirely new experience for players who can now enjoy both direct control over towers, as well as the keeping the strategic part of it.

  • Designed the enemies to be defeated in a single hit, whether they hit onto the paddles, or get shot by projectiles. This prevents a messy screen as entities do not stay on screen for a long period of time.

  • Designed a simplistic control scheme and layout of mechanics which spreads throughout the entire for ease of learning them.

  • Designed all the enemies which behaves differently from each other, where they pose a different kind of challenge to the player.

  • Balanced the powers of the pong paddles and the enemy spawns to give players a challenging but fun experience.

2D ARTIST

  • Created the 2D character art as well as their animations and made them both cute and deadly to suit the theme of the game, using Photoshop.

  • Designed the assets to be bright and colorful for clarity of gameplay as this is an arcade game where players have to focus in order to keep up with the pace of the game.

PRODUCER

  • Managed a team of 4 and synced their work together to ensure a smooth production of the game.

  • Communicated with my programmers to ensure they understand the design of the game, as well as understanding their technology limitations.

  • Made each member works at the same pace where they do not conflict with each other by using scrum sheets and weekly meetings.
